The Vegas Golden Knights Have Set The Standard For Banner Raising Ceremonies Everywhere

I don't know if I'm just getting softer in my old age or what's going on. But when the Golden Knights first came into the league, I hated all the gimmicky Vegas shit. Downright loathed it. I thought they were turning the NHL into a circus act and making a mockery out of the league. But then they went ahead and put together a roster of some of the biggest shit kickers that hockey has to offer. They bullied their way to a Stanley Cup Championship in just their 6th year of existence. Now I have no other choice but to respect them.

And somehow, some way, I've completely flipped on all the tacky shit.

Banner raising ceremonies are always a little awkward. It's great to relive the magic of the last season in whatever video the content team throws together. But once you get to the actual raising of the banner, it's just...awkward. You've got a bunch of guys standing there watching this giant piece of cloth slowly move up in the air. It's always so goddamn slow, and the music choice is always sounds like the D2 Mighty Ducks theme track. Someone needed to step up and add a little extra pizazz to the event. And I guess that's what Las Vegas does best. So from now on, unless you've got a little gimmick to add to the ceremony before the banner gets raised, don't even think about winning a championship.

P.S. -- Still wasn't the best slot machine moment in Vegas over the past week.
